Budget Savy

Image: ffffound

I take my hat off to the ingenuity of turning a cheap white cupboard into a beautiful french armoire with this clever stencil (I assume it's a stencil.... if it's hand drawn, I'm even more impressed!).  Simple yet effective - brilliant!

Just So Sweet

I love this...

Photographic Relief

It's been a long, long day of styling houses so I felt in need of some beautiful photography that could transport me away from my world of cushions and vases and fake ice!

Today I Love.... The Ditzel Hanging Chair

It might be an oldie but a goodie, but the rattan Hanging Chair designed by Nanna & Joergen Ditzel in 1957 remains one of my favourite pieces of hand crafted furniture.  I particularly love it in a natural setting like in the image above, where it's organic form allows it to merge so seamlessly and beautifully with the surrounding elements.

Wabi-Sabi

Today I came across the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi - the art of imperfect beauty.  For me (who is so drawn to things that are aged, flawed and full of time-worn character), the idea conceptualises everything I've ever found beautiful.

Books & Bottles - I love you!

Essentially, Wabi-Sabi is a philosophy of aesthetics that revolves around the recognition of the transient nature of earthly possessions and the corresponding celebration of the process of aging.

Bunny Box full of treasures

Put simply, the impermanence and incompletion of all that surrounds us makes our lives more beautiful.

I have five rulers in my drawer, but this one is my favourite

Loosely translated, Wabi means "a taste for the simple and quiet" while Sabi refers to the "patina of age".

This rusted old ink stamp is now a door stop

Finally I have found a way of describing my passion for all that is pre-loved and imperfect in this world :)

Saturday Afternoon Thoughts

It is such a beautiful day in Sydney today...  Sunshine is pure happiness don't you think?  It makes the world a warm, wonderful place to be (only 37 days til Spring!).

5 Seconds of Loveliness

Today I'm in the mood for soft, floaty dresses, legs, cotton reels and smiley faces... best not to question these things :)

Devil in the Detail

Being a stylist, I'm ridiculously fastidious about details... a great interior is all about the small touches that make up the whole and I really love inventive styling that injects personality, wit and charm into a space.

Piles of books are a stylists best friend!  I particularly like the monochromatic combination in this image.

I don't know what it is about a good alarm clock, but it works every time!  I wish this little green fellow was living on my bedside table...

The loose petals add a certain accessibility to the nostalgia of this image.

I have an empty frame that I have carted around with me since I was eighteen - without fail, everyone who visits me questions my sanity but I love it and have no intention of ever filling it!

Today I love.... Tree Chandeliers

I dream of one day owning a house with a couple of big old trees out the back where I can hang crystal chandeliers and watch as the sun creates it's own twinkling beauty against the simplicity of nature's backdrop.

I found these chandeliers hanging at Rozelle markets this morning and I can't tell you how magical they appeared...

Friday Photos

I found this piece of drift wood and little sea urchin last weekend at Bundeena - they now sit on my desk to remind me of the beach.  The ash coloured wood is so smooth and the sea urchin so rough, they provide perfect contrast to one another.

Friday Finds

In celebration of the completion of the longest week that ever was, I found some lovely little images to start the weekend on a bright, happy note...

I am very into the industrial look at the moment.  How great is the checkerboard painted floor?

Old ladders and I have a long and passionate history!

This weekend I'm going to get crafty... will post my creations along the way if worthy :) HAPPY WEEKEND

White = Happiness

I think maybe I have some Swedish blood in me... I see a white interior and I fall in love, it's that simple.  Below are some wonderful images from a beautiful blog I came across, purplearea.  Finding them has quite honestly made my day - I hope you enjoy them too :)

Favourite House

I've recently been putting together a portfolio of photos of homes that I have decorated and styled.  I completed this house a little while ago but it remains my all time favourite!
